What wine tasting costs in Santa Barbara County, town by town
The SB Wine List team ·
"How much is wine tasting here?" has a short answer and a useful one. The short answer: of the 66 wineries we checked in October 2026, the middle starting price is $30 per person. The useful answer depends on the town, the kind of tasting you book, and whether you plan to take a bottle home.
We read every price below on the winery's own website, or the booking page it links to, on October 15, 2026. For each place we took the lowest price it posts for a tasting. Prices change, sometimes with the season, so treat these as a guide and confirm when you book. For the basics of booking and opening hours, start with your first wine day.
The county in one line
Across the 66, fees start between $15 and $150. Forty-five of them start at $30 or less, and 11 start at $50 or more. The lowest posted price we found is $15, at Kalyra in Buellton and Montemar in Lompoc.
Town by town
Each line is the lowest posted tasting price at the wineries we checked in that town.
- [Los Olivos](/towns/los-olivos): 15 wineries, $25 to $35, middle price $30. The tightest spread in the county. Six start at $25, eight at $30, and Future Perfect is $35.
- [Solvang](/towns/solvang): 8 wineries, $20 to $35, middle price $27.50. Lucas & Lewellen and its sister room Toccata post lists from $20 to $25.
- [Santa Barbara](/towns/santa-barbara): 6 wineries, $24 to $120, middle price $27.50. Five of the six start between $24 and $35. The outlier is Au Bon Climat, whose curated library tasting is $120 and booked at least two days ahead. Our Funk Zone guide covers the rooms there.
- [Buellton](/towns/buellton): 11 wineries, $15 to $60, middle price $25. Five of the eleven are at $25, and Kalyra is $15. Seated estate visits push the top end, up to $60 at Pence.
- [Lompoc](/towns/lompoc): 9 wineries, $15 to $75, middle price $40. Two different kinds of visit: Montemar ($15) and Camins 2 Dreams ($20) in the Lompoc Wine Ghetto start lowest, while seated estate visits such as Dierberg ($35), Tyler ($50) and LaBarge ($75) cost more.
- [Santa Maria](/towns/santa-maria) and Foxen Canyon: 6 wineries, $20 to $100, middle price $27.50. Foxen posts $25 a flight at both its rooms; Paul Lato is $100. Our Foxen Canyon Road piece maps the drive.
- [Los Alamos](/towns/los-alamos): 4 wineries post a price we could read, $20 to $40, middle price $22.50. Bedford is $20.
- [Santa Ynez](/towns/santa-ynez): 7 wineries, $30 to $150, middle price $55. The highest in the county: four of the seven post only private or seated experiences. Gainey and Sunstone are $30; Crown Point starts at $75.
What the fee usually buys
Where a winery says how many wines are poured, five is the common number: 13 of the 66 say five. A few pour six, among them Clementine Carter in Los Alamos ($40) and Taste of Sta. Rita Hills in Los Olivos ($25 to $70).
Many rooms offer more than one flight. Choosing reds only, single vineyards or library wines usually costs a little more, often $5 to $15 above the standard flight. Zaca Mesa pours flights at $30 and a reserve flight at $45; Story of Soil is $30 at the bar and $50 for a private seated tasting among the barrels.
Seated, private and estate tastings
The higher numbers are almost always a different kind of visit: a reserved table, a host for your party alone, a walk through the vines, sometimes food. Pence posts experiences from $60 to $200, Crown Point from $75 to $250, and Grimm's Bluff a reserve tasting and vineyard tour at $150. Most of these need a booking ahead. They suit a day built around one estate; a few standard flights suit a day of tasting more widely.
When the fee comes back
Fifteen of the 66 say on their sites that a fee can be waived with a purchase, and the terms vary:
- Any purchase: Buscador in Buellton waives its $25 fee with any wine purchase.
- A dollar amount: Ken Brown waives $25 with a $50 purchase; Zaca Mesa waives with $150.
- Two bottles: Tomi Cellars and Frequency, each $25.
- Three bottles: Camins 2 Dreams, Montemar, Samsara, Dreamcote, and per fee at Spear and Clementine Carter.
- Six bottles a person: Paul Lato.
Others are clear that the fee stands: Crown Point says its fees are separate from wine purchases. Wine club members taste free at many rooms; at least 19 of the 66 say so, though the number of guests included differs.
Planning a budget
- Count per person, per stop. At the county's middle price, three standard tastings come to about $90 a person before tax, food or wine to take home. One $75 estate visit plus two $30 flights comes to $135.
- Read the small print. A few prices include tax (Silver Wines in Santa Barbara) and some add tax and gratuity (Kings Carey in Solvang, "$30++").
- Mix your stops. Pair one booked, seated visit with walk-in rooms nearby. How many wineries in a day helps with pacing.
- Plan the ride first. Book a driver, take a tour, or choose one town you can walk, like Los Olivos on foot or Solvang. Keep water and a meal in the plan, too.
A note on these numbers
We checked 66 wineries we list, on their own websites, on October 15, 2026. For each we took the lowest price posted for a tasting, leaving out glass, bottle and food prices. Wineries whose sites did not show a price we could read are left out rather than guessed at, which is why Los Alamos has only four. A middle price is the median; where a town has an even count, it is halfway between the two middle fees. Each winery's listing shows its fee as it posts it. Prices change: confirm when you book.
