Climate and soils
It is the warmest grape-growing part of the valley. A north–south ridge to the west blocks Pacific breezes, and day-to-night temperature swings are wider than elsewhere in the valley. Soils derive partly from serpentine. Elevations run from about 500 feet to about 3,430 feet.
