Climate and soils

North–south hills to the west shelter it from the strongest Pacific winds. In the TTB rulemaking it is warmer than Sta. Rita Hills to the west and cooler than Happy Canyon of Santa Barbara to the east. More than 95 percent of the area is a single soil association of well-drained sands and clay loams.
